Johnson & Johnson Company will not sell Johnson Baby Talcum Powder in India from 2023, it has been announced by the company on 11 August 2022. This decision has been taken based on international issues and quality standards.

The company told the US Securities and Exchange Commission in July 2022 that 40,300 legal cases have been filed against it in the US regarding the powder and it is alleged that baby powder contains carcinogenic substances such as asbestos.

Company spokesperson Melissa Witt says that the decision to discontinue the sale of the powder has been taken after an analytical analysis. Although the company is still justifying the quality of the powder, they say that the quality of the powder is good by all standards.

Johnson talcum powder started selling in 1894. A media report in 2018 claimed that the powder contained carcinogens (A substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue) and the company already knew that it was carcinogenic and that tests between 1971 and 2000 found some degree of carcinogens. After which legal action was taken against the company and the case reached the court.

Being a 123-year-old company, it was a bit difficult to go against it and win the case in court, but there was a demand to ban it by health experts and common people and in 2020 its sale was banned in America, according to sources. The company has so far lost $ 350 million in the legal battle. $200 million was offered by the company to quash the lawsuit, which was rejected outright by the court.

Johnson & Johnson Company has now decided that from 2023 it will not sell baby powder worldwide
